I am Vanessa Halliwell, a qualified counsellor, offering a warm, confidential space to talk about what is going on for you - whether that is anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, loss, illness, or simply feeling stuck.
Starting counselling can feel daunting. My approach is gentle, collaborative, and paced around you, helping you make sense of your experiences and move forward in a way that feels right.
If it helps, you are welcome to watch the short video below to get a sense of who I am and how I work.
Are you looking for a way to make sense of what's going on for you at the moment? Perhaps you just want a moment to catch your breath, but you're worried that if you stop, everything you're juggling will fall apart. I understand how overwhelming that can feel.
If you can allow yourself a little time, I can help you make sense of things. We can meet in person in Haslemere or Farnham, or online, at a time that suits you, including Saturday mornings.
Whether counselling is for you or someone you love, it can help in different ways: by listening, by exploring solutions together, by better understanding yourself or others, or by learning coping strategies. Everything is confidential and non-judgemental, and you can share at your own pace.
People come to counselling for many reasons — to process grief, anxiety or low mood, to make sense of a difficult relationship, to reconnect with themselves, or simply to be heard. Whatever has brought you here, you are not alone, and counselling offers a space to talk to someone outside your circle of family and friends, without judgement.
I came to counselling from an entrepreneurial and commercial background, having worked as a mentor and advisor before training as a psychotherapist and
counsellor. That experience taught me that good relationships, professional or
personal, are built on trust, and I bring the same belief into the therapy room: good counselling begins with a strong therapeutic relationship between
us.
I work particularly with people going through change — workplace pressure,
relationship difficulties, divorce, separation, dating after a breakup, a health diagnosis, or grief, and I bring both training and lived understanding to that work.
Please note I do not work with anyone under the age of 18.

I offer a variety of counselling services tailored to your needs. There is no single therapy service that suits everyone. The services I currently provide are as follows:

As a qualified psychotherapist and Counsellor, I believe that every individual can grow and change and that the key to successful therapy lies in creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment or criticism. I work collaboratively in a non-clinical way with my clients to help them. You find your solutions – whether that’s making effective changes in your life or finding ways of coping with your problems.
My approach to counselling is grounded in empathy, respect, and unconditional positive regard. I am dedicated to helping my clients build the self-awareness, self-esteem, and resilience they need to move through their challenges and live more fulfilling lives.
Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties,
illness, or simply a sense of being stuck, I am here to help you find your way
forward.
I do not do the work for you — but I will gently encourage you to make the most of our time together.
I can offer counselling in person from Haslemere and Farnham. Alternatively, I can offer online sessions, or for an additional fee, I can offer a bespoke service and come to you.
An initial telephone consultation of up to 20 minutes is required, during which we can learn a little more about each other and see if we are a match.
Sessions last for 50 minutes, and usually take place every week and cost from:
£75.00 per session
A Rapid Response same-day session cost from:
£85.00 per session
Home Visits from £95.00 per session
Concessions for Student Counsellors
Bespoke by separate negotiation.
I do have a cancellation policy and require a minimum of 48 hours of cancellation notice.
The first session is simply a chance to get to know each other. There is no pressure to have everything
worked out before you arrive, and you will not be asked to share more than you feel comfortable with. We will spend a little time talking about what has brought you to counselling and what you are hoping for.
I will explain how I work, and we will agree together on a simple working contract — covering confidentiality, session times, fees, cancellation and how we will review our progress. You are welcome to ask me anything.
Some people feel nervous before their first session. That is completely normal. Most people leave feeling
relieved that they came.
There is no set number of sessions. Some people find that a handful of conversations brings real clarity;
Others prefer to work more openly over a longer period. We will decide together as we go.
An initial telephone consultation of up to 20 minutes is available at no charge. This gives us a
chance to talk briefly, answer any questions, and see whether working together feels right.
